Charging of Former Director and Staff of Faith Educare Centres with Cheating for Fraudulent Childcare Subsidy Claims

16 Mar 2021

The Early Childhood Development Agency (ECDA) is aware that the former director of Faith Educare childcare centres and two of her employees will be charged in court on 17 March 2021 for engaging in a conspiracy to cheat ECDA by making fraudulent claims under the Child Care Subsidies scheme between January and August 2016. Faith Educare is no longer in operation.

2.    In August 2016, ECDA detected irregularities in Faith Educare’s subsidy claims and referred the matter to the Police. The monies involved in the wrongful subsidy claims made for the period of January to August 2016 have been fully recovered from Faith Educare.

3.    For the disbursement of preschool subsidies under ECDA, there are processes and checks in place to ensure the proper use and accountability of Government monies. ECDA maintains close oversight of preschools’ use of government subsidies which includes conducting regular audits.

4.    ECDA takes a serious view of any individual or licensee that misuses government funding and will not hesitate to take action against those who breach the Early Childhood Development Centres (ECDC) Act and Regulations.
