The Creative Box - Stories, Rhymes and Activities
Stories and rhymes offer great opportunities for your child to develop his ability to listen, speak, read and write.
Bond with him - talk, dramatise, explore, ask questions, think, create, and much more!
Mummies and Daddies, you can develop your child's communication skills, boost his confidence and spur his creativity when you encourage and respond positively to these language-rich interactions.
How to use the cards below - Use the following suggestions and questions as a guide.
READ stories or rhymes with your child. Use the following suggestions and questions as a guide:
- What do you see?
- What do you think is happening in this picture?
- Describe the characters, actions, objects and even sceneries. Use descriptive words- for instance, a mouse with big round ears and a long curly tail.
- Talk about the colours, shapes and textures and even smells.
- Talk about feelings. For instance - How do you think the mouse feels? Why do you think he feels this way?
- What do you find interesting about the story? Why?
CREATE your own puppet stage and little puppets with materials you can find at home.
PLAY out the scenes and bring your stories to life with the puppets you’ve created! At the back of each rhyme or story card, there are activities you can engage your child in. Have fun!
We hope you enjoy the activities. Send your exciting ideas and creations to partnerships@ecda.gov.sg
