From 2016, the validity period for SPARK certification has been extended to six years. Centres will undergo a mid-term check in the third/fourth year of their SPARK certification. For the mid-term check, 5% to 10% of the centres due will be selected randomly for the SPARK Assessment while the other the centres will undergo Developmental Visits (DV).

DV helps centres to sustain their improvement effort and maintain SPARK certification standards over the 6-year validity period. Through DV, centres are guided and supported on their SPARK journey. DV focuses on teaching and learning practices in the centre and its improvements made in the past years. Centres will have a half-day visit which comprises a walk-about, lesson observations and discussions with the Centre Leader and staff.
