A. Safe Management Measures in Preschools
Preschools will continue to have measures to minimise risk of transmission of infectious diseases including COVID-19. These include health screening for children/staff/visitors, good personal hygiene practices among children and staff and high environmental hygiene standards. Staff and children who are unwell will not be allowed to enter the premises and can only return when they have fully recovered.
Keeping preschools safe is a collective responsibility. Parents play an important role to keep preschools safe.
- Inform the preschool if your child has tested positive for COVID-19 or had recent contact with an infected person.
- Monitor your child’s health and bring your child to see a doctor if your child is unwell.
- Have your child rest at home and return to preschool only when he/she has fully recovered.
- If your child has had recent close contact with a confirmed COVID-19 case (e.g. household member or classmate), your child should self-test before leaving the house.
ln line with the national posture, masks will be optional for staff and children in preschools from 29 August 2022. Mask-wearing is also optional on school buses.
If a preschool staff/ child becomes unwell in the preschool, they are advised to exercise social responsibility to wear a mask and promptly leave the premises to seek medical attention.
Yes. Preschools are not required to shower/bathe children in the daily routine. They should provide necessary care to ensure children are kept clean throughout the day (e.g. through wipe downs, change of clothes, needs-based showering due to soiling or skin conditions).
If preschools choose to shower children, they must shower children individually and rinse the showers/contact areas carefully after each use. Parents are advised to approach their child’s preschool directly on showering arrangements.
B. Management of COVID-19 Cases in Preschools

When a staff or child tests positive for COVIID-19, preschools will notify parents and closely monitor the health of the close contacts.
Parents also play an important role to keep preschools safe.

- Monitor your child’s health and bring your child to see a doctor if your child is unwell.

Yes, your child may return to preschool, if well.
We urge parents to exercise social responsibility to protect the children and staff in preschools. Parents should inform the preschool if your child has had recent contact with an infected person. Parents should monitor the health of your child and bring your child to see a doctor if your child is unwell. Parents are also encouraged to administer an ART on their child before the child leaves the house.
In line with the national health protocols, your child should isolate at home for at least 72 hours. If your child tests ART negative after the 72 hours, and is well, your child can return to the preschool. Please show proof of your child’s negative ART result to the preschool.
If your child tests positive after 72 hours, he/she needs to continue to self-test. Your child can return to the preschool if well, when (a) he/she has a negative ART result or (b) on Day 7 (12pm), regardless of whether your child tests ART positive or negative. Your child does not need to produce a discharge or recovery memo from the doctor when he/she returns to preschool.
Yes, this is to enable parents to make an informed decision on whether to continue to send their child to school.
Please note that for cases which are reported to the preschool on a weekday, parents will be notified within 24 hours. For cases reported over the weekend (Saturday/Sunday) and public holidays, the preschool will inform parents by 7pm before the next working day.
