My preschool teachers inspired me to serve in the Early Childhood sector. I did not know much about what an early childhood educator does then but I set my mind on joining the sector regardless and aspired to be a centre principal. When I took up the Early Childhood course at ITE, my lecturers shared the career prospects I can look forward to. With my lecturers’ encouragement and guidance, I know I can realise my dreams if I work hard. It is indeed an exciting time to join the Early Childhood sector today!

At ITE, the 6-month Enhanced Internship was a golden opportunity to gain real work experiences. I got to teach children aged 18 months to 4 years old, and even work closely with my amazingly dedicated colleagues to shape the children’s learning environment. My greatest takeaway was realising the difference I can make - to be able to impart the same knowledge, skills or value to every child, regardless of his or her background.

During my studies, I was fortunate to be able to participate in several sector-wide activities, where I met other educators from the Early Childhood family. At Start Small Dream Big 2016, I helped to guide young children through station activities. At the Education and Career Guidance (ECG) Fair 2017, I shared my experience with secondary school students, and hopefully, inspired them to join me on this Early Childhood journey too.

I am now pursuing a Diploma in Early Childhood Education with the support from the ECDA Training Award. School work can be quite tough. When I feel tired at the end of the school day, I just have to remind myself why I’m working so hard. To be able to support the learning of young children, now that’s priceless!
