A gift from our children to the nation in celebration of SG50 and 15th Anniversary of President's Challenge. It is never too young for a child to be involved in community work. It instills in children the value of responsibility, engages their compassion, and empowers them to make a difference to the lives of others.
The initiative started like a small seed and grew into a garden where a thousand flowers bloom. The idea is that a child may not be able to do a lot. Twenty children can certainly do more, but imagine what 1,000 children can do!
Little things are like meadow flowers. Though they seem individually odourless, they together perfume the air.
It is an adventure, not a race. It is about inculcating values, not seeing how much value you raised. It is about sharing love, not giving love. It is about the little things, not something big.
8,200 children participated in this 6-month initiative. More than $100,000 in cash raised for various community services and other donations in kind. More than 100,000 hours of planning and participation in community projects.
One big dream for our nation.
"No one can do everything, but everyone can do something."
