Let’s continue to keep calm, stay vigilant and practise social responsibility! Apart from the precautionary measures implemented in preschools against the spread of COVID-19 (Coronavirus Disease 2019), everyone in the early childhood community, including our children and families, can play a part in keeping Singapore and our home safe. The Early Childhood Development Agency (ECDA), the Ministry of Education (MOE), and the early childhood community have come up with resources to help our little ones learn about the virus, how to protect oneself from it and how to contribute to the effort of combating the virus!
We thank the preschools that have graciously contributed their resources. For those who wish to share your resources, please email SPARK@ecda.gov.sg.

Resources by MOE
In light of the COVID-19 outbreak in Singapore, the Ministry of Education has come up with a set of superhero characters to teach students about personal hygiene, social responsibility and national resilience. Collectively known as the “Soaper 5”, the characters have been launched as part of this year’s Total Defence Day campaign and incorporated in lesson packages sent out to primary and secondary schools.
The Soaper 5 characters are aligned to the WDWSW messages:
-Wash your hands with soap
-Don’t touch your face
-Wear mask if unwell
-See doctor if unwell
-Wipe down (to make the place clean for the next person)

‘Understanding the Coronavirus Disease' eBook by Chiltern House Preschool
Currently, news of Coronavirus Disease dominates the conversations around us. However, we do not want our children to feel afraid of an unknown, invisible threat. Instead, we want them to be informed in a child-friendly manner and to feel empowered knowing that they can play a part in fighting the virus by staying healthy and strong. This eBook is designed to engage our preschool children to help them understand the virus and to know what they can do to help fight the virus!
COVID-19 Resource Kit & Activities by Carpe Diem
Carpe Diem Preschool has developed a series of meaningful learning experiences for our young children through using the COVID-19 resource kit. It consists of 4 lesson plans which were carefully designed to provoke children’s minds. There is also one take home activity for parents to work with their children as they are required to act as investigators to observe how their family members do handwashing at home.
Children were also introduced to carefully selected stories, video link, jingles, songs, rhymes and posters about germs and proper handwashing techniques. There is also a simple to do instruction on how to make Do-It-Yourself (DIY) hand sanitizer which seemed to be the children’s favourites. The older children from Kindergarten One and Two class were involved in a series of class discussions to discuss what and how COVID 19 affects their lives in Singapore and to many others around the world. The purpose of this discussion is to strengthen their understanding about the importance of practising personal hygiene to stay healthy and prevent the virus from spreading.
‘Don't Get In-Touch with COVID-19' eBook & Activities by MY World Preschool
In light of the COVID-19 situation, it is important for our children and parents to be well-acquainted with the necessary precautionary measures against such infectious diseases. MY World Preschool has designed a picture book- Don’t Get In-Touch with COVID-19 / 请远离冠状病毒19, accompanied with a set of suggested activities, to help the children learn about how the virus spreads and how to keep themselves safe and protected. The book reinforces good hygiene practices such as proper hand-washing methods and coughing/sneezing etiquette, while the activities provide parents with ideas to engage their children in fun and meaningful ways while they spend time indoors!
‘COVID-19 - A Child's Voice' eBook by My First Skool
Due to the Covid-19 situation, our children have heard our teachers and parents repeatedly stressing the need to maintain personal hygiene and social responsibility. They also had the opportunity over the past weeks to write, draw and/or record their appreciation to the frontline teams (such as the healthcare professionals). We know that many children would have questions about the current Covid-19 situation, and parents would be wondering how to talk to the children about the Coronavirus.
In My First Skool, we believe that such life situations present invaluable teachable moments for us - teachers, parents and/or grandparents - to talk and learn alongside our young children and help them better understand the Covid-19 situation as well as how they can take preventive actions to take care of themselves and their families and friends.
My First Skool has published this special e-book on COVID-19, titled, “Covid-19, A Child’s Voice” – aimed at allowing our teachers and parents to talk with our children, to share information and understanding of the Covid-19 outbreak, through the medium of storytelling. This bilingual (English and Mandarin) and illustrated e-book explains to children what the Covid-19 virus is, how it can affect us and how we can protect ourselves from it. This is Edition 1, as we will continue to develop other editions to share updated and accurate information as the Covid-19 situation evolves.
