These Christmas-themed fruit bites make a refreshing appetiser or dessert and are easy for little fingers to assemble.
Getting children to help in the kitchen can:
- Lay the foundation for healthy eating habits. Children are more likely to eat dishes they helped prepare. Use this opportunity to introduce different fruits and vegetables.
- Encourage self-expression. Recipes where children can decorate or arrange ingredients as they like promote experimentation and creativity. Refrain from imposing your ideas or what you think is ‘right’.
- Foster confidence and independence. Assign age-appropriate tasks in the kitchen. Toddlers can help rinse fruits, while older children can slice soft fruits like kiwi using a child-safe knife.
STRAWBERRY CHRISTMAS TREES

WHAT YOU’LL NEED
- 2 to 3 kiwi fruits (depending on size), peeled and ends trimmed
- 12 strawberries, leafy tops removed
- 12 blueberries
They may need a stool to stand on, but toddlers can help rinse fruits. When children join in simple food prep and contribute, it gives them a sense of pride and accomplishment.
FOLLOW THESE STEPS
- Cut kiwi fruit into slices about 1cm thick.
- Stack the fruit: kiwi on the bottom, strawberry in the middle, and blueberry on top.
- Skewer the stack together with a toothpick or decorative cocktail pick.
