About SkillsFuture Study Award for Early Child​hood (EC) Sector

The SkillsFuture Study Award encourages and supports early childhood educators who are Singapore Citizens to develop and deepen their skills needed by the EC sector.

To support your professional development, you will receive a monetary award of $5,000 which can be used to defray out-of-pocket expenses for your supported course, on top of existing Government course fee subsidies. The study award is bond-free.

Eligibility Criter​ia

   • Singaporean with at least 3 years of work experience in the EC Sector.
   • Committed to deepening skills in the sector​.​
   • Must be accepted into and provide proof of admission to supported course (Full Qualification) before
     applying for the SkillsFuture Study Award for Early Childhood (EC) Sector.
   • Must not have completed half of the supported course by the end of the application period
   • Not a previous recipient of any SkillsFuture Study Award.

The following supporting documents are required to complete your application:
 •    Letter of offer from academic institution into supported course (*mandatory), e.g. Letter of Offer from
      NIEC for ADECL
 •    Proof of enrolment into supported course (*mandatory) , e.g. confirmation email from NIEC

*Note: Failure to submit supporting documents will be deemed as an incomplete application.

Evaluation Process

Evaluation of applications will take place about 4 to 6 weeks after the closing date. Shortlisted applicants will be notified via email.

Supported Courses Available

1. Will the SkillsFuture Study Award be extended to other EC courses?

At this moment, the supported courses for the EC Sector are the Advanced Diploma in Early Childhood Leadership (ADECL) and Advanced Diploma in Early Childhood Teaching & Learning (ADECT) and Specialist Diploma in Early Childhood Learning Support (SDELS) programmes. We will continue to review whether the SkillsFuture Study Award can be extended to other EC courses that help EC educators deepen their skills.

2. Is there an age limit to qualify for the SkillsFuture Study Awards?

No, there is no age limit. As long as you meet the minimum requirements, you are eligible to apply. Each application is considered on its own merits.

3. Why are (a) fresh graduates and (b) ind​ividuals seeking to make a career switch to jobs in the EC sector, not eligible for the SkillsFuture Study Award?

The intent of the SkillsFuture Study Award for EC sector is to support skills deepening, professional and career development of in-service educators who aspire to take on larger job roles. ​Individuals who wish to join the EC sector mid-career can tap on Professional Conversion Programmes for the EC sector, which are supported by Workforce Singapore (WSG).​

4. Do I need to be nominated by my employer for the SkillsFuture Study Award?
No. you do not need to be nominated by your employer for the SkillsFuture Study Award.

5. My employer has given me a partial sponsorship to attend the course of study. Can I still apply for the SkillsFuture Study Award?

The Study Award aims to support the skills deepening of Singaporeans by helping to defray out-of-pocket expenses. Your application for the Study Award will be assessed based on the eligibility criteria as well as the extent of out-of-pocket expenses after your employers’ sponsorship. If you are receiving any form of sponsorship, please state the amount and name of sponsor under the “Are you sponsored” section of the application form.

6. Will I still be eligible for the award if I applied for the Study Award after commencing my studies?

Applicants who have completed PDC1 of ADECL would have completed less than half of the course, and hence will be considered for the study award. Applicants who have completed PDC1 of SDELS would have completed half of the course, and hence will not be considered for the study award. This is ensure that the cash award disbursed to study award recipients can be used to help defray out-of-pocket expenses during their course of study.


Monetary Award / Bond 

7. Do I need to serve a bond?

There is no bond but selected candidates must complete their course of study within the maximum candidature period.

8. What must I fulfil to keep the monetary award of $5,000?

You must successfully complete the Advanced Diploma in Early Childhood Leadership (ADECL), Advanced Diploma in Early Childhood Teaching & Learning (ADECT) or Specialist Diploma in Early Childhood Learning Support (SDELS)​ within the maximum candidate period as stated by the institution. ECDA reserves the right to request for the return of the monetary award in the event you were unable to complete the programme within its respective maximum candidature period.​
