About SkillsFuture Study Award for Early Childhood (EC) Sector

The SkillsFuture Study Award encourages and supports early childhood educators who are Singapore Citizens to develop and deepen their skills needed by the EC sector.

To support your professional development, you will receive a monetary award of $5,000 which can be used to defray out-of-pocket expenses for your supported course, on top of existing Government course fee subsidies. The study award is bond-free.

Eligibility Criter​ia

   •     Singaporean with at least 3 years of work experience in the EC Sector.
   •     Committed to deepening skills in the sector​.
   •     Has a track record of contributing to learning and training of self and/or others.​
   •     ​Must be accepted into and provide proof of admission to supported course (Full Qualification) before applying for the SkillsFuture Study Award for Early Childhood (EC) Sector.​
   •     Must not have begun Post-Diploma Certificate 2 (PDC 2) of supported course before the end of the application period.
   •     Not a previous recipient of any SkillsFuture Study Award.

A new system will be rolled out to receive applications for SkillsFuture Study Award. As such, please submit applications only from 4 Mar 2019 onwards.

The following supporting documents are required to complete your application:
 •    Scanned colour copy of NRIC (front and back) (*mandatory)
 •    Scanned copy of Letter of offer from academic institution into supported course (*mandatory)
 •    Either scanned proof of course payment (for all applicants) or proof of enrolment into supported course (for company-sponsored applicants or payment through PSEA only) (*mandatory)
 •    Scanned​ copy of Post-Diploma Certificate in Fundamentals of Early Childhood Leadership (if applicable)
 •    Scanned copy of Declaration of Partial Sponsorship by Employers for Supported course (*mandatory for company-sponsored applicants) [Click here to download the form]

Evaluation Process

Evaluation of applications will take place about 4 to 6 weeks after the closing date. Shortlisted applicants will be notified via email.

Supported Courses Available

1. Will the SkillsFuture Study Award be extended to other EC courses?

At this moment, the supported course for the EC Sector are the Advanced Diploma in EarlyChildhood Leadership (ADECL) and Advanced Diploma in Early Childhood Teaching & Learning (ADECT) programmes. We will continue to review whether the SkillsFuture Study Award can be extended to other EC courses that help EC educators deepen their skills.

2. Is there an age limit to qualify for the SkillsFuture Study Awards?

No, there is no age limit. As long as you meet the minimum requirements, you are eligible to apply. Each application is considered on its own merits.

3. Why are (a) fresh graduates and (b) ind​ividuals seeking to make a career switch to jobs in the EC sector, not eligible for the SkillsFuture Study Award?

The intent of the SkillsFuture Study Award for EC sector is to support skills deepening, professional and career development of in-service educators who aspire to take on larger job roles. ​Individuals who wish to join the EC sector mid-career can tap on Professional Conversion Programmes for the EC sector, which are supported by Workforce Singapore (WSG).​

4. Do I need to be nominated by my employer for the SkillsFuture Study Award?
No. you do not need to be nominated by your employer for the SkillsFuture Study Award.

5. My employer has given me a partial sponsorship to attend the course of study. Can I still apply for the SkillsFuture Study Award?

The Study Award aims to support the skills deepening of Singaporeans by helping to defray out-of-pocket expenses. Your application for the Study Award will be assessed based on the eligibility criteria as well as the extent of out-of-pocket expenses after your employers’ sponsorship. If you are receiving any form of sponsorship, please declare it during the application phase. 6. Will I still be eligible for the award if I applied for the Study Award after commencing my studies in ADECL/ADECT?

Yes. Applicants who have not commenced Post-Diploma Certificate 2 (i.e. Post-Diploma Certificate in Curriculum Leadership in an Early Childhood Setting for ADECL; Post-Diploma Certificate in Leadership in Teaching and Learning in the ECCE for ADECT) of the ADECL or ADECT programme at the point of application will be considered for the SkillsFuture Study Award.

7. I have completed my PDC 1 as CPD (Option B). I have been accepted into ADECL/ADECTto complete the remaining PDCs as full qualification. Am I eligible for the Study Award?

Yes. Applicants who have not commenced Post-Diploma Certificate 2 (i.e. Post-Diploma Certificate in Curriculum Leadership in an Early Childhood Setting for ADECL; Post-Diploma Certificate in Leadership in Teaching and Learning in the ECCE for ADECT) of the ADECL or ADECT programme at the point of application will be considered for the SkillsFuture Study Award. To keep the $5,000 given as part of the Study Award, applicants on the modularised route must fulfil the following requirements respectively:

For ADECL (modularised route) candidates:
Upon completion of PDC 1, candidates must complete PDCs 2 and 3 within the maximum candidature period. 

For ADECT (modularised route) candidates:
Upon completion of PDC 1 and 120 hours of electives from the approved list of modular courses, candidates must complete PDC 2 within the maximum candidature period.​ ​

Monetary Award / Bond 

8. Do I need to serve a bond?

There is no bond but selected candidates must complete their course of study within the maximum candidature period.

9. What must I fulfil to keep the monetary award of $5,000?

You must successfully complete the Advanced Diploma in Early Childhood Leadership (ADECL) or Advanced Diploma in Early Childhood Teaching & Learning (ADECT) within the maximum candidate period as stated by the polytechnics, and inform ECDA. ECDA reserves the right to request for the return of the monetary award in the event you were unable to complete the ADECL or ADECT programme within its respective maximum candidature period.​

10. Can I write more (or less) than 500 words for Section C (Education and Skills Background) and Section F (Personal Career Development Plan)?

Each write-up should have 200-500 words to provide sufficient information to support your application for the SkillsFuture Study Award.

11. Can I upload other documents besides the application form?

No, but you can provide details besides your skills and accomplishments in Section C of the application form, and include links to your published work or portfolio (if any). Please refer to “Application Process” above for step by step guide.
